We do not wish pupils to bring on to school premises any personal property of value unless it is essential for the pupil's directed work at school that day (e.g. a calculator) or in order to comply with school regulations (e.g. clothing in accordance with uniform regulations). Mobile phones are not permitted at school. Any item that could be regarded as a weapon is expressly forbidden, and possession at school may result in exclusion.
The school allows a pupil to bring cash to school to top up a lunch card and / or bus fare, as long as the sum is not more than the total normally required for these purposes.
The school will not take responsibility for any item of personal property unless the property is deemed acceptable in the light of paragraphs 1 and 2 above. Items such as walkman sets, any jewellery (apart from one pair of stud ear rings), watches valued at more than £10 etc, are not deemed acceptable. Non-uniform clothing is only acceptable after clear prior arrangements have been made with or by the Headteacher (e.g. if a "non-uniform day" is permitted).
A pupil must give adequate notice and acquire prior permission from a member of the School Management Team if his / her personal property is to be stored on school premises overnight (e.g. a musical instrument for classwork or for use with an approved visiting tutor).
Reasonable, appropriate and suitable security arrangements will be made by the Headteacher to protect a pupil's personal property left overnight on the premises before permission is granted. If such arrangements cannot be made, permission will not be granted.
Any items handed over to staff for safe-keeping will usually be locked away by the teacher concerned. Occasionally items are confiscated. Those which are to be returned at a pre-arranged time are usually kept in the school office. Pupils should ensure that any such property can be identified as theirs.
It is very helpful if pupils’ clothing etc. is labelled with the child’s name.
The school is not equipped with a traditional "safe" because it would constitute an attraction to burglars. The school never stores any of its own cash on the premises overnight and the school will not arrange to store anyone else's cash on the premises overnight.
Lockers are available for pupils. A deposit is charged, which is refunded when keys are returned.
