French Year 7

A modern foreign language is a foundation subject for all key stage 3 pupils.  Two lessons per week are allocated in Year 7 and the language studied is French.

During the year pupils will learn to understand people speaking and writing in French on the topics listed below. Pupils will also learn to speak, sing and write in French.  The main course book used is Metro 1but we use a variety of other textbooks or magazines to enhance our pupil’s learning.

In Year 7 the following content is covered.

Term one

Greet people and say your name.
Say the French alphabet and spell aloud.
Talk about classroom objects.
Say the numbers 1-69.
Say how old you are.
Say the months of the year and the days of the week.
Say when you have your birthday.
Say what you like or not ( hobbies and sports)

Term two

Talk about what you did at the week-end ( on going throughout the year)
Talk about school subjects.
Talk about your school day.
Tell the time.
Count to 100

Term three

Talk about your town
Say what’s in your town.
Talk about what you will do  in the holidays

Pupils are assessed on their ability to show understanding of the spoken and written language and on their ability to speak and write French.
Assessment is continuous and there is an end of year examination.

Homework

At least one homework a week is set. This may take the form of writing or learning tasks. Pupils are provided with a vocabulary booklet which contains an extensive vocabulary organised in topics and with some grammar points and tips. These must be retained until the end of year 9.
