ENGLISH
The KS3 English syllabus aims to meet targets set by both the National Curriculum and Curriculum Cymraeg.
Pupils study in Units of Work, each of which is focused on particular objectives.
Achievement is measured by continuous assessment of Speaking and Listening, Reading and Writing, and confirmed by more formal papers, worked under test conditions.
Year 7
Reading is a priority at this stage with all pupils starting the Reading Scheme, an award system that encourages reading. A three-pronged approach involves ‘shared’, ‘guided’ and ‘private’ reading. Pupils are provided opportunities to be involved in the school’s ‘paired reading’ scheme with senior volunteers in the first term as part of the transition from primary into secondary school.
